Behind the Voice
I was born and raised in South Africa. Being brought up in an interracial family during Apartheid will teach you a lot about the world, really fast.
My upbringing, my family, my lived experiences as a child and my neurodiversity shaped a titanium strength sense of justice in me. And that led me to being involved in many different professional and personal levels of speaking out for those who can’t.
I was a dog trainer for 15 years, helping people learn to speak dog so they could have a peaceful and mutually beneficial relationship. Because at the end of the day, isn’t that what we all want (including our dogs)? To be seen, heard and understood!
My heart and soul dog Piper and I moved from South Africa to Canada many years ago (no, I’m not telling you how many and giving away my age). She was with me through every major event in my adult life. Marriages, divorces, starting businesses, switching businesses and careers, moving countries, all of it. She was my ride or die.
When she padded off her mortal coil a few years ago, it was the kick in the ass I needed (after I found my way out of the massive fog of grief) to try something I’d always wanted to do, but never believed I could - audiobook narration.
And here I am, still having to pinch myself that I get to do this for a living somedays.
Because now, I get to live in author’s worlds and their words as I bring them to life in audiobooks.
The magic that is created when an author is brave enough to bring their stories to the world is awe inspiring.
So thanks munchkin, for guiding me in life even from the afterlife!
I’m still owned by border collies and they get me out in the beautiful mountains of BC, keeping me physically (and mentally!) fit, so I can continue fighting the good fight!
